What sessions with me are like
I try my best to keep sessions calm, relaxed and enjoyable. The priority is to make each student feel comfortable and encouraged to try their best.
The aim is for each student to walk out feeling confident and motivated.
Getting ready for the test, not just the homework
When helping students prepare for exams, I tend to begin with general review and practice quizzes. They show where mistakes are commonly made, so we know where to focus.
Subjects and course ranges
Each subject I teach, from the lowest to the highest level. Please send your exact topics or worksheets at least 24 hours before each session so I can prepare.
Background and why I tutor
Where I'm coming from
I have a Bachelor of Arts from Thompson Rivers University, with a major in English and a minor in philosophy.
I worked for six months at Sylvan Learning in Langford as one of their top reading and writing tutors, and also as a math tutor. I also worked for three months in Kamloops, BC, for the ASSAI after-school program as a person of rapport.
What keeps me teaching
I tutor partly because I am going into a teaching career, and partly because I truly enjoy helping students reach their learning goals and do well in whatever subjects they struggle with. Tutoring is a truly fulfilling experience, knowing I am helping students grow and build new skills.
I love to teach math, especially pre-calculus, the most. I genuinely find it enjoyable, and I see it as an opportunity to solve puzzles and learn cool patterns with numbers.
I always want students to leave our sessions with skills they can use in other courses and areas of life. Strengthening a student's ability to problem solve in unique and effective ways is one of the most important things I want them to practise and feel confident doing.
When I'm not teaching
I gravitate toward many hobbies that involve art, and I find the most joy in finding endless opportunities to create something new and beautiful.
From crocheting to cooking, I love making things with my hands.
My favourite hobby, and one I enjoy every day, is painting. It gives me endless ways of expressing myself and making something truly unique.
