Asees Kaur

Math and Science Tutor

I studied mechanical engineering at UVic and have worked in engineering and drug discovery, so I bring real-world experience to math, physics, chemistry and biology. My sessions are calm and methodical. We work through problems step by step, there's never any rush, and no question is too small to ask. My goal is for you to need me less over time.

How I teach

What sessions with me are like

My sessions are calm and methodical. We work through problems step by step, and there's never any rush.

★
One step at a time We take each problem apart and work through it in order, so you can see how every step leads to the next.
★
Ask any question I keep things relaxed and conversational, so you feel comfortable asking any question, even the ones you think are "dumb." Those are usually the most important ones.
★
Need me less over time I want you to leave with the skills and confidence to work through problems on your own, including ones you haven't seen before.
Test and exam preparation

Getting ready for the test, not just the homework

Before a test, I want the real thing to feel familiar. We plan ahead, practise under exam conditions and take on the hardest questions together.

★
Build a study schedule We plan your studying ahead of time so you aren't cramming at the last minute.
★
Practise with past and sample exams Timed practice with real exam-style questions helps the actual test feel familiar.
★
Work through the hardest questions We tackle the toughest problems together. If you can handle those, the rest of the test feels much more manageable.

A little more about me

Background and why I tutor

Education and experience

Where I'm coming from

B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering, University of Victoria (2022).

I've been tutoring since middle school, starting with helping my peers in math and science. During my engineering degree at UVic, I worked as a university tutor, supporting students in first- and second-year courses.

Professionally, I've worked in mechanical engineering and at a preclinical drug discovery company, so I bring real-world experience applying math, physics, chemistry and biology.

Why I tutor

What keeps me teaching

I've been tutoring since middle school because I genuinely love contributing to someone's learning. My favourite part is the moment something finally clicks for a student.

Working in engineering and drug discovery also showed me how much these subjects matter in the real world, and I love helping students see that too. If I had to pick a favourite subject to teach, it would be physics.

Outside tutoring

When I'm not teaching

★

I love to travel, and I've visited at least two new countries every year for the past three years.

★

My favourite hike so far is Sri Pada in Sri Lanka.

★

I run my own consultancy in business development and marketing, working with healthcare and science companies. I love showing students that a STEM background can lead to all kinds of careers, not only the obvious ones.

I would like to thank Nathan who owns Rising Stars tutoring for providing our family with the easiest and most seamless experience.

My 17 year old daughter was in desperate need of help with completing science 10 via sides (this is in addition to her full course load at her school), and Nathan quickly matched us with Asees who is a brilliant engineer with her own start up. Asees is warm, professional, easy to coordinate sessions with, and she is a fantastic tutor.

She immediately helped my daughter get back on track and they are completing her science course at an excellent pace.

I really appreciate Nathan’s quick response to my initial inquiry as well as his very organized and friendly invoice process. E-transfer for each session makes things so easy.

Their pricing is also amazing and much more affordable than other tutoring services in Victoria. I highly recommend for your high school student! Check them out and give this great local company your business!

Nathan and Asees are very helpful to my son who has ADHD and LD. They take the time to explain and help him understand better, but not only for exams, they care to adjust his difficulties and guide to find his study strategy. We are so comfortable to communicate with them. Thank you for your support!
